The photo is about half sky and half river, separated by bands of low hills. The hills are blues and purples. The sky has bands of clouds, in brilliant golds and oranges, with some pinks and purples at the edges. These colors are reflected in the river, where there are small waves fragmenting the already fragmented colors in the sky.

Sunset on the #Danube. I stayed in this town about 9 months and this view varied wildly, although it was rarely as wild as this.

Only rotated a bit to fix the horizon, no color futzing.

The photo is looking nearly straight up at a wet rock face with rivlets of water falling. The perspective makes the rock look far, far smaller than the 108 meters it actually is. A greater volume of water is falling a little further to the left, partly visible at the top of the photo. The weather was grey, and the lens was wet, so it is hard to tell the water from the sky.

he photo shows a slight uphill trail in dense woods. The trail is mostly just rocks with some dirt in the foreground making it look like it's clear; but it isn't - it soon blends into the stream, and within 50 feet it is unclear in which direction the trail actually goes. Light filters through the trees above, and it appears that there is a more open space up ahead (there isn't).

And some real #forest, with a typical #NewHampshire trail. All rocks and roots, and it crosses the stream twice in this photo. Try to guess where 🙃

The photo is from the fifth floor of a mall, looking down at the oval-ish atrium and across to the walkways and storefronts on the other side. Glass elevators are visible on both ends of the atrium. Towards the left side is a two-story water feature. Large signs and banners hang all over, including two that read "big sale" vertically, flanking the water feature. The floor of the atrium is full of small stalls. There are people everywhere.

A more intimate photo of a small local market, selling mostly vegetables. I'm standing at the end of a row of long tables - vendors sit or stand on the left, while customers walk through the aisle on the right. Strung above everything are brightly colored tarps to shield everyone from intense sun, so the interior is both bright and dim, in different hues.

The photo shows floor to ceiling reflections in an infinite mirror setup (parallel mirrors). Panels showing different kinds of forest and flowers are set between sections of mirror. Because the photo is taken at a slight angle, many panels overlap to infinity. The light isn't good, and since everything is reflected at least once everything is blurry.

Bringing the outside in, one infinitely-reflected fragment at a time. Probably too big a stretch for #ForestFriday, but if you're stuck in an underground tunnel in a mega city, you take what you can get. Probably Singapore.

I think this is a Lesser Masked Weaver, mid-stitch, for the #BirdOfTheDay alt #NestBuilders. A group of them lived above my patio when I was staying in Johannesburg.

I was off by a decade - feels like just yesterday 🙃

The photo is looking down at multiple layers of Greek mosaic floors in houses built down a hill. Most of the patterns are geometric, mostly blues and whites. Between layers of floors are parts of walls and columns, some fancy and some plain brick. Some bits of frescoes can be seen on some of the walls. One modern viewing platform is visible several floors down. At the top edge modern frames and translucent protective panels enclosing these ruins are visible.

He is sitting in such a way that the pads of all four feet are facing directly at the camera, in a row - it is unclear what's going on down there. Above the frame around the bowl the cat is looking directly at the camera, but only his eyes and ears are visible. Hoping my friends across the Middle East are safe. Hoping a bunch of old men shuffle off their mortal coils sooner rather than later.

Wasn't going to post another cat pic so soon, but tuned into the news and...well.

Most of the photo is of reddish-brown sandy dirt. The right third is a small grey-ish brown and white bird, shaking its wings, so its head, wings, and body are blurred with movement while its feet and tail seem to stay still. Its markings include a U-shape on its head (bottom of the U towards the beak), white sides, and tail markings that are white on the side edges and brown in the middle.

Re-reading some of Pico Iyer's travel writing to teach narrative non-fiction in the coming weeks (should say, I was reading one piece to teach, and it spiraled). If you like travel writing, Falling Off the Map has some lovely pieces.

I'm beginning to doubt myself, this photo looks so fake 😂 A lot of my years in China feel fake, so 🙃 These girls are real, though

I picked them up when they were four weeks old, with two brothers Floof and Jack. Floof was adopted abroad; Jack was killed in Shanghai (and I will never forgive that).

Fwiw, the rhythmic thumps in the audio are my rubber boots. The cameo pups at the end are Xiao and Niuniu, Dora's sisters - not really lion-hearted but both a little longer-legged 😁

The photo is of an open-style staircase with honey-colored stairs and white metal support. The top half is flooded with light through a large window, with shadows cast by frames. On the lowest step is a brown dog, Xiao (Little), facing left. On the third step up is a white dog, Nuinui (Naughty Girl [in a cute way]), facing forward, with her eyes closed in the sun. In other photos it is more obvious that they are sisters (the same basic shape and bat-like ears), but here you can get a sense of how much they rely on each other - both are pretty timid. Yes, Xiao's nails are long - Xiao, Niuniu, and Dora all lived a long time at a shelter that used chicken-wire cage bottoms. Their nails are as short as they can be now.

Quite late to the #BlueSkyArtShow this week, with #two sisters. #Rescue aunties escaping the puppy that has been staying in that pen, because the puppy is afraid of the stairs.

Wish sister Dora was in this too, but she was on the couch and could not be moved.

The photo is about half sky with a brilliantly multi-colored sunrise; a large part of the lower half is a reflection of the sky in a large lake. The middle part, on land, is mostly trees and hills in silhouette. In the closest foreground, reaching into the lake, is part of a manicured golf course with large, dramatic sand traps. A photo I posted a while back is in the hills on the left, on a very foggy day this same week. I don't play golf - I was there teaching English with a kids camp, and we were stuck in conference rooms with no windows all day, so moments like this were very welcome.

The photo is entirely of tree trunks, mostly slender, but a few older trees mixed in. Although it is winter, there is a lot of foliage, both on the taller trees and especially in the undergrowth. The sky appears grey but the sun is out, about halfway up the picture, and in the right third, visible through the trees. The light is streaming through the trunks, casting shadows.

Morning walk through a patch of forest close to where I live - nice way to start the day.

I've been saying for years that Asia is the kindest place you've ever been, until it isn't.

The photo is of a non-descript brown bird hanging onto a branch that is about 60 degrees up and to the right. Otherwise, most of the picture is of blurry green leaves and branches. The non-descript brown bird has a striking yellow beak and patch around its eye, which are also caught in a ray of sunlight.

An old pic but one I love, because this bird was actually a buddy of mine - a myna outside my flat a long time ago, in Chennai.
