During the one of the Olympic hockey games, one of the announcers said, "Team USA is keeping their foot on the gas pedal. For Team Finland, it has been uphill sledding all day." That metaphor needed a bit more work.

Just saw a facebook post that Stefan Noesen brought his daughter to the Sirens game. He wasnβt wearing any Devils gear or anything, and I think heβs recovering from an injury, so Iβm guessing that it was an actual family activity and not publicity.
Yeah, I usually check the restaurant website to see what they say to do. A bunch of restaurants that used to have their own delivery a few years ago now link to Doordash.
Lewis Hine photo of two girls working in a field. "Camille Carmo, age 7, and Justine, age 9. The older girl picks about 4 pails a day. Rochester, Mass."
Lewis Hine photo of three boys working in a field. "Three boys, one of 13 yrs., two of 14 yrs., picking shade-grown tobacco on Hackett Farm. The "first picking" necessitates a sitting posture. Buckland, Connecticut."
Lewis Hine photo of a very small boy working in a field. "Six-year-old Warren Frakes. Mother said he picked 41 pounds yesterday "An I don't make him pick; he picked some last year." Has about 20 pounds in his bag. Comanche County, Oklahoma."
Lewis Hine photo of a boy working in a field. "Twelve-year-old Lahnert boy topping beets. The father, mother, and two boys (9 and 12 yrs.) expect to make $700 in about 2 months time in the beet work. "The boys can keep up with me all right, and all day long," the father said. Begin at 6 a.m. and work until 6 p.m. with hour off at noon. Fort Collins, Colorado."
Lots of kids working in those fields. Many of them never went to school or learned to read, and lots of them died very young. There was a whole lot of malnutrition in those generations, too.
And a huge amount was done by child labor, too. Lots of those kids never went to school or learned to read, and a lot of them died very young.
Hilary Knight and Brittany Bowe were interviewed at an Unrivaled game last week, and Brittany said something like, "I'm really impressed with the refs, and the consistency of the calls. That's something your league doesn't really have, right, Hilary?" and Hilary was just like, "No comment."
Take a look at the open-net goal from the NY-Boston game a few days ago for some of the most bizarre ref calls ever.
I think it was Ottawa that started it (I might be misremembering), but it happens everywhere.
I've seen people saying that Devils player have come to Sirens games before when they have that kind of schedule (where the Devils have two home games with a day off in between, and the Sirens have the ice on that in-between day), but it didn't seem to happen this time.
I kind of expected at least a few Devils players to be at the Sirens vs. Fleet game on Thursday (their schedule worked out perfectly for it), but as far as I know, they weren't. The women from the Fleet who'd been on the Olympic team dropped the puck at the Devils game on Wednesday.
That was actually my first guess, though I can't in any way explain why.
Which character?
Staff at the nationβs largest Immigration and Customs Enforcement detention facility have placed bets on which detainee will be the next to die by suicide, according to new reporting from the Associated Press based on 911 calls and detainee accounts.
sale is for today only, so if you want a gay baseball book blurbed by rachel reid, grab it now
I'm not quite sure what's up with this recent series of "Interesting facts about places, as read by Minnesota Frost players who were clearly not given the script before they sat down in front of the camera," but they're kind of entertaining.
Would definitely watch this
Thanks! I think that answered what I was trying to figure out. (It does leave me with several new questions, but I think I'm too tired to figure out all of that now.)
As a somewhat new hockey watcher: why did the NY goalie leave the net? What did she think had happened, and why would whatever she thought had happened mean that she should leave the net? #pwhl
The announcers don't seem to, either.
If that Fleet goal stands, that was just painful. #pwhl
There's really no point in even hoping for Cincinnati, but Columbus would be nice
The number of people in NJ willing to go into NYC for a game is probably a lot greater than the number of people in NYC willing to go to NJ for a game, would be my guess.
The NJ games have been selling better -- there's just been one home game since the Olympics, and there's another tonight. I heard they opened up more seating that's usually blocked off, because the sections they usually open were getting close to sold out.
Montreal has by far the best logo in the league, though.
I like the "NY" shaped like skyscrapers, but the echo-y bits at the ends of the word just reming me of those graphics telling you to shake a drink before drinking it.
The NY Sirens logo is a big weirder -- when the team name was announced, most people assumed it meant Sirens like the mythological creatures, but it turned out it mean sirens like the "hustle and noise of NYC." Which isn't that easy to depict graphically.
Yeah, that's the Boston Fleet -- it's supposed to a combination of an anchor and a B.
PWHL now announcing they've now sold out upcoming games at Madison Square Garden & TD Gardenβusually the NY & Boston teams play in much smaller stadiums.
Again, this league just has The Juice as a sports product now and I am so glad people are finally seeing it.
The Long Game is the second book about them. (I'd recommend at least reading Role Model before that one, even if you don't read the others, but plenty of people have skipped right to The Long Game if they wanted to find out what happened to Shane and Ilya next.)
The players who dropped the puck at the Devils game tonight were Fleet players who are already in town for their game tomorrow. Devils and Sirens play in the same arena.
