Many thanks to Cllr Ger Ward/Minister Niall Collins T.D.’s office for their kind invitation to view the statue of Daniel O’Connell recently unveiled at Leinster House. 4/4

Today’s trip enabled me to gain new insights into General de Gaulle’s visit of Derrynane House in 1969 by looking at the personal papers of Prof. Maurice O’Connell, a descendant of Daniel O’Connell who showed the liberrator of France around the house of the liberator of Ireland. 3/4

Please note that due to unforeseen circumstances, since author Muriel Barbery has had to cancel her trip to Limerick, the screen adaptation of her novel will not be shown tomorrow (Thursday 26 Feb). Instead we will be showing a screen adaptation of 19th-century novelist Balzac’s “Eugénie Grandet”.

Really nice to celebrate the 10th anniversary of AMOPA Irlande at the French Residence this evening and to meet again with so many members of the association. The Order of Academic Palms is a French government distinction created under Napoléon recognising exceptional achievements in education.

With my colleague Darach Sanfey and in partnership with Cremona Heritage, we will soon be publishing the first ever English translation of that book. Stay tuned!
