De dader achtervolgde haar een half uur en viel haar aan in een gemeenschappelijke keuken. Ondanks de hulpgeroepen van een getuige, grepen medebewoners en beveiliging niet in. Pas toen Danial, met een bebloed hoofd, naar de balie ging, werd de politie ingeschakeld. Twee dagen eerder had Danial melding gemaakt van aanranding door dezelfde dader, maar de beveiliging stelde dat aanspreken zijn agressie zou vergroten. De dader bleef haar onzedelijk betasten en bedreigde haar met geweld. Danial voelde zich onveilig en in shock, met zichtbare verwondingen. Het COA heeft een kamer voor lhbtiq+ asielzoekers, maar deze groep ervaart regelmatig discriminatie en voelt zich niet veilig. Sandro Kortekaas van LGBT Asylum Support benadrukt dat signalen van onveiligheid vaak niet serieus worden genomen en dat de overheid weinig doet voor veilige opvang. Een brief aan Minister Bart van den Brink volgt met verzoek om tafel te gaan samen met deze slachtoffers om deze problemen aan te kaarten.
