I looked at 250 MTB races on BikeReg in an attempt to think data-backed thoughts instead of vibe-based thoughts about New England mountain bike racing. I learned some things and maybe you will, too.

oh i actually have done this several times, the 6" italian sub was my standard lunch in hundred milers. Lumberjack was my favorite because i ate it while on the back of a paceline.

Also kinda interesting that while the scene has decline A LOT since the peak in 2014, races aren't really getting smaller. It's always been 250-300 people per event, on average. We just have 50% fewer events now.
"No one races cx twice a weekend anymore" is actually kinda true it looks like. The obvious explanation is that we don't have 5-7 UCI weekends that were two days at the same place in #NECX like we did in the mid-2010s
I dunno if this is statistically significant but Sunday races have been markedly smaller than Saturday races in NECX the last few years
