It is important that we discuss how these molecules work as they are routinely used to define whether a process is dependent upon AQP4 or not. This has fundamental implications for understanding glymphatics.
Yes, that is right. We were really surprised by that, too, as we chose them as positive controls.
These compounds should be used with care!
Our study suggests that two commercially available molecules should be used with care when investigating the AQP4 dependence of biological mechanisms.

Our lab's first Biorxiv deposition is live!
We show that two commercially-available "aquaporin-4 inhibitors" do not inhibit aquaporin-4 as previously described.

Lucas is now on bluesky at @ungerlucas.bsky.social
This is (bluesky-less) Lucas Unger's first manuscript from his PhD work, and a big team effort involving members of #TeamAQP across the world. We are keen to get feedback on our study, and urge caution to researchers using AER-270 or TGN-020 in their work!
It is great to see this work out and we look forward to discussions on how the field should scrutinise historical data on AQP4 in brain fluid homeostasis and glymphatic flow. The take-home message is to please use these molecules with care!

Just back from my last gig as Chair of @ukri.org BBSRC Research Committee E.
It has been a privilege to spend the last 6 years supporting the UK's best and brightest bioscientists and biotechnologists in their transition to independence!

Wow! ๐ฅณ Starter Pack 1 on membrane proteins, lipids and transport processes has maxed out, so I made a 2nd one to reunite our community!
Please share widely and reach out if you love lipids and the proteins that frolick at and in the membrane! ๐งช

Done!
Great idea. Count me in. I like calcium channels! Would you like to join the AQP party?
Delighted that our MIBTP Landscape Award has been funded. I'd be very grateful for any sharing of this, it's a great programme and I'm not just saying that as I'm one of the directors ๐คฃ.

Our new research institute Aston Institute for Membrane Excellence @astonaime.bsky.social is now here. Give us a follow for all things membranes! www.aston.ac.uk/research/aime
Welcome to the AQP party!
Great idea. I just did this, too!
Ain't no party like an AQP party! ๐ฅณ
This is the beginnings of a Starter Pack for aquaporin channel fans. Join the Aquaporin Party!

Join me to do your PhD on aquaporins as part of the Midlands Integrative Biosciences Training Partnership funded by BBSRC. Please get in touch if you are interested! The project is co-supervised by @kitchenphil.bsky.social
The deadline is 16th January 2025!

Great work, Ute!
Decided to try and be more active here. Check out our new institute, Aston Institute for Membrane Excellence. If you like membranes (of any kind) please get in touch! www.aston.ac.uk/research/aime
Alan is an excellent supervisor and this is a great opportunity!
