๐ซ Amid the rising global burden of non-communicable diseases, leveraging AI to enhance equitable and scalable preventive health-care approaches in the community could be a pathway to accelerate the transformation towards sustainable and high-quality primary care. โญ๏ธ
๐ค Multisectoral partnerships and collaborations between all stakeholders are needed to ensure responsible AI implementation in Primary Care.
๐ Sustainable practices and renewable energy sources will be key to ensuring a net positive effect for planetary and human health.
โ๏ธ Ensuring equity will require consideration of bias mitigation strategies, universal design principles, digital determinants of health, safety nets, and careful alignment with patient experiences and values across the full spectrum of human diversity.
There is an urgent need to improve #AILiteracy among providers and the general population and to equip them to safely navigate the AI shifts in primary care.
tl;dr: โ AI offers a chance to reimagine Primary Care, supporting clinicians and empowering people in managing their health BUT โผ๏ธDeployment is moving ahead of evaluation & regulation, with few robust real-world trials and inconsistent assessment of safety issues.
In this review, we frame #AI's impact on care quality across effectiveness, safety, timeliness, efficiency, patient-centredness, provider experience, equity, and planetary healthโplus #PrimaryCare attributes of access, continuity, coordination, comprehensiveness.
