I think part of it is length of games compared to a movie/a season(still has that keep up language) combined with a lot of games coming with chores or other daily activities. Players seem to want more updates, more communication, more access, compared to playing and moving on

In smaller teams/indie there's just as much fun in taking three people and free roam to run an idea up and try and pivot and stay super mobile.
But it's nice to focus on nailing my skill set and contribution over maximizing hats.
There's always a tradeoff in team org and style, not a replacement

A fun thing in AAA is grabbing latest after a frustrating bug and seeing the unified effort of ~30 talented people appear in the time it took to iron out a wrinkle, then realizing that's a multipliable factor over the game. Great sense of scale and trust to make the best sum of all our spaces

And even in a time when so many are shutting doors and laying off, I know my AAA package went further than my indie severance.

I will never shut up about Steel Lancer. The sports seasonal framing gives a great pressure for the constant tuning of your parts and strategy, and the L1/L2/R1/R2 limb controls just flow. Chip decay is an added pacing nuance, and the murder mystery may overegg it, but it's so cheesy that you smile.
