I wasn't going to watch men's Olympic hockey. But after yesterday's current events from the disgraceful AB premier & knowing Geriatric Joffrey was about to have a tariff tantrum, I thought I'd just watch a minute of the game for distraction.

Oh, this makes me sad.
I was not a fan of his (his skating didn’t connect with me even though his talent is inarguable, but I watched him lose and immediately get up from the kiss and cry and congratulate the gold medalist. Mad respect to him. Gold medal behaviour right there.
I used to worry about spending too much time doomscrolling and if I would spend the remainder of my life with a device attached to my thumbs.
Turns out, a daily menu of hatred, Trumpism, transphobia and ignorance was all I needed to never want to be online.

Just received a lovely letter from the Albertan government reminding me they will be stealing money from my disabled son because they believe 1901 dollars a month makes severely disabled people rich.
The new seat for his wheelchair is almost 6000 dollars but hey; let’s not talk about that.
Sitting in the parking lot trying to work up the energy to go grocery shopping, knowing that it’s going to cost a fortune and that I’m going to run into treasonous separatists.

I do not often feel verklempt over celebrities deaths. But the news of Catherine O'Hara's passing has really kicked me in the gut, in a way I did not expect.
I expected her to live forever as an indomitable queen of comedy and as one of my Canadian icons ought to.

My daughter is an emergency room nurse here in AB so I am aware of the logistical nightmare hospital staff face, with the influx of contagious patients, a lack of masking and a lack of vaxxing. It's a nightmare in every direction. Not just for the patients but for the never ending risk to staff.

This will not comfort you, but when my husband had major thoracic surgery last year, he was placed in a room with a Covid positive patient and was then placed in isolation. It was terrible. We took all the precautions. Wore the N95s. And the hospital was the problem.

I started studying policing but I took a religion and the law class just to fill a schedule gap and it shook everything up and complemented my original studies so well that I just expanded my studies.
Yikes.
When I returned to university a few years ago during a midlife crisis, I took a lot of flack for choosing to study religion AND policing. Useless degrees, they said. But I wanted, NEEDED to know more about the systems used to oppress people & harm communities.
I have yet to regret my choice.
