Yesterday afternoon, I and my co-investigators got a notification from Robert Wood Johnson Foundation that our proposal was a finalist for funding through their Rapid Response program... followed 5 minutes later by an email saying, Sorry, we sent that by mistake, you are not getting funded. π
Screenshot of text: By Sarah Giacomini Student Leadership and Involvement Center In working closely with student leaders and professional staff, I strive not just to guide them, but to walk alongside them, sharing in their growth, challenges and joys. This value calls me to remain grounded in empathy and to see my work as a form of mutual formation in which I learn just as much as I teach. In a world that feels increasingly divided and heavy, it feels more important than ever to be not only for people, but with them and to show up with compassion, even when I do not fully understand their experiences. Being for and with others draws me toward humility and presence and reminds me that true impact happens not in moments of control but in moments of connection with those around me.
A colleague in Student Life posted this reflection on being "for and with" students on a Jesuit campus. Her remark that "true impact comes not in moments of control but moments of connection with those around me" is a beautiful reminder as we approach the semester. π #JesuitEducation #Creighton
