Don’t be complicit with this horrible bill!
1. Today, Senate Democrats showed spine, and killed a national transgender sports ban bill via filibuster.
Not a SINGLE Democrat voted for cloture.
S. Baum writes about what happened today, including some of the speeches.

If only you had voted no on the national defense authorization act rather than trading the lives of trans folks for subs
This should be happening every state to support queer and trans youth
They are going to ignore court orders.
If they ignore court orders, the social contract is dead and buried, the constitution is no longer in effect.
It's a rubicon that cannot be uncrossed.
This is devastating for universities, hospitals, science, health, and innovation.
One thing I really admire about this @rodger.bsky.social post criticizing the NCAA re: trans athletes is that he states super clearly that he used to be swayed by ”fairness” arguments, and he's not anymore
Erasing queer and trans folks from publicly funded research results is bad science, a free speech violation, and against what researchers as part of gaining IRB approval. LGBTQ participants donate our time and info, we deserve equitable results.

1. Multiple hospital systems are complying with an unlawful executive order with dubious enforcement mechanisms and pulling their trans kids off care.
While most have not, those that have are harming their trans patients.

This is what the government did with 120K+ Japanese Americans in 1942.
I know. I was there in those camps.
"'Many of us can share medicines, or break rules at our jobs – as nurses, teachers, social workers, doctors – to help people get essentials. This is a time for sustained care for one another, careful rule-breaking, and disobedience in the face of illegitimate authority.'"
This is my favorite picture of Stonewall.
They knew they were getting arrested just for being LGBTQ+.
Yet... they're still here, standing outside of the boarded up Stonewall Inn, smiling as the world was at a fever pitch of hatred against them.
I think about it a lot in moments like this.
1. Breaking: Donald Trump has issued an EO that lays the groundwork for a total military ban.
In it, he says that being trans goes against "a soldier's commitment to an honorable, truthful, and disciplined lifestyle."

All NIH study sections canceled indefinitely. This will halt science and devastate research budgets in universities.
I’m furious that Senator Jack Reed voted to remove healthcare for transgender children of military members! What’s the point of having Democrats representing us who don’t vote to protect LGBTQ lives? @reed.senate.gov
Stop bragging about voting to remove healthcare from transgender children!
Pleased to see Senator Whitehouse @whitehouse.senate.gov co-sponsoring this amendment to protect transgender children of service members! Call your senators to ask them to vote for it!

So disappointed that @sethmagaziner.bsky.social voted for a bill that will harm trans children
The election of Donald Trump to a second term as president feels like a body blow. Nevertheless, there are actions #LGBTQ parents can take now to protect and support our families—and there are a few things that are giving me hope. mombian.com/2024/11/22/h...
BREAKING: Matt Gaetz has withdrawn his name for consideration to serve as AG.
And if there was one message I wish I could convey, from our groups to you, it's that - don't wait.
When you see a need, don't wait to try to fill it or fix the problem. There's no "authority" or "adults in the room" to wait for.
There's just us, and we're enough.
Don't wait.
Act.
I’ve been posting this like crazy. Thirty states have local elections. WI and PA have Supreme Court elections and VA and NJ have statewide. Want to send a message to Trump and MAGA? Win those races. OK has primaries on Feb 11th! Want to fight that lunatic Education Sec there? RUN for school board!
