Quakertown parents, groups demand release of students in police clash Civil rights groups and parents gathered in front of the Quakertown Police Department Saturday demanding answers for the violent confrontation Friday.

INBOX: the police chief of Quakertown, Pa., led a group of plainclothes officers to disrupt a peaceful high school student sidewalk protest yesterday.

They threw an underage girl to the ground, choked her, and disconnected all calls to the detention center where she and others are currently held.

FEBRUARY INTERVIEW with ASA DRAKE Perhaps it’s no surprise that the first of Asa Drake’s two debuts, Maybe the Body from Tin House, is flush with the fruits and flora of a flamboyant garden, given that she lives in rural Florida. N…

So glad that one of my first interviews was with @nicolewlee.bsky.social , a poet I deeply admire and whose work has shaped my own. Her questions offered me so much insight into my own writing process. fourwayreview.com/february-int...

Statement from Oscar-winning director
Hamdan Ballal:
This afternoon, nearly a year after we won the Oscar, the same settler who attacked me shortly after l returned from Los Angeles-Shem Tov Lusky-again led an attack against my home and my family. Four of my family members are currently arrested and one is in the hospital.
I invite all journalists and diplomats to come visit me and my family this Tuesday, February 17, to hear about how the situation has gotten worse in the year since we won the Oscar, as it has across the West Bank.
Email me to coordinate your visit:

Two weeks ago we managed to get a decision from the Israeli court that the area around my home is closed to non-residents, but the settlers break that order and still come with their flocks almost every day.
We call the police, they do nothing. The army comes, they do nothing. Today, Shem Tov Lusky-the settler who attacked me in my home shortly after I won the Oscar last year-came with his flock to my home. My brother called the police to report the incursion. The army came first and immediately raided our house, attacking everyone inside. Then they arrested two of my brothers, a nephew, and cousin. Another brother was badly injured and is now in the hospital.
The Israeli court decision was supposed to make things a bit quieter for us. But the opposite has been true. The settlers have ramped up their harassment and the Israeli authorities have done nothing to enforce the decision, and today they joined the settlers in the attack.

β€œI Have Been Here Too Long”: Read Letters from the Children Detained at ICE’s Dilley Facility Hundreds of children are currently being held with their parents at an immigration detention center in Dilley, Texas. In letters and drawings, eight kids convey the pain of feeling trapped with no end...

ProPublica received eight handwritten letters from children who have been held at the detention center that 5-year-old Liam Conejo Ramos was recently released from.

We'll let their words speak for themselves.

There is no easier or more important political position to take than to do everything possible to stop this. It will change our society forever, and Democrats are going along with it.

Portrait of a blonde woman: face smooshed sideways against the glass of a scanner, gaze unfixed, mouth parted. Repositioned mid-scan, the top half of her face repeats in fresh distortion, a slight glitch at the seam. Her hard blue eyes look away.

Looking through the Dual Lens: Michelle PeΓ±aloza’s β€œAll the Words I Can Remember Are Poems” Michelle PeΓ±aloza’s second full-length collection, β€œAll the Words I Can Remember Are Poems,” reminds us of the function of poems: to record, to remember, to share.

"PeΓ±aloza’s latest collection emphasizes how new forms don’t supplant or forget existing ones, but offer variation β€” a kind of play β€” which is the point of the poem, to make and to make again."
