Escalation didn't start yesterday. It all escalated in february 2022 when Russia invaded Ukraine. The incoming US administrations's idea of peace is handing Putin what Putin wants. When Putin gets what Putin wants Putin will proceed to the next issue on the "Putin wants" list.
