Morkeleb the Black from Dragonsbane by Barbara Hambly. As it turns out it’s one of my favorite books of all time 💙
I remembered that I’m an adult with free will, tools and hands and I can make my own board art/illustrations/end papers for books I love.

This piece was done in pigma pen, graphite, white acrylic pen, and black colored pencil on 9x12” mixed media paper. I kinda like how it’s posed in a figure 8 position; almost as if saying that this dragon is forever. This drawing was a challenge in some places, but overall great experience

This fluffy dragon was made using graphite and black colored pencil on 7x10” XL mixed media paper. Drawing all the fur was definitely a practice in patience. Yet, it was well worth the effort. I really like how this artwork turned out

I’m really enjoying drawing these graphite dragons. Although color is cool and all, I still prefer the precision of 0.5mm mechanical pencils, and the pressure sensitivity of graphite in general

I changed up my process a bit for this latest piece. Instead of fully rendering the dragon in small parts, I shaded the entire dragon with a single pencil hardness before moving on to the next. The first layer is 2H, then 2B, and lastly black colored pencil
