What's the song name?
Basically Style sustaining Substance > Style over Substance
Consequently, all of the best indie games don't have any of this crap in them...
(The feelings come from you engaging with the game cause its amazing, they aren't forced fed to you in some roundabout meta way that takes precedence over fundamental game design philosophy)
I remember watching a Sunshine Let's play back in the early 2010's, and one of the people playing joked: "Imagine the backlash this game would have gotten if it was a Sonic game!"
idk how true that its, but the idea is funny to me and never left my mind for that reason! :D
(lol :P)
I was absolutely OBSESSED with this game and its sequel not too long after they came out (2009).
I think I actually made a bunch of art pieces of this and filmed it.
I should probably upload it at some point...its pretty novel stuff!
Needless to say, NGE is really good
Even if someone doesnt personally like it much (which is a completely separate topic at this point), it shouldnt be too hard to see why its technically really good
When people discredit its worth so blatantly, it bothers me a lot for that reason I guess!
lol :P
1. This guy has not seen actual bad anime
2. This guy doesn't realize that his bad faith "critique" can be applied to almost anything if you try, including stuff he prolly likes
3. He might actually be aware of both of these things and not care anyways...which would get me SUPER pissy if true! :O
Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't the issue that they simply weren't getting paid much due to only receiving dev goal money and got no money from the game sales?
I remember Stealth talking about that back in the day.
I'm not pushing the "Sega hates mania devs" but just saying what I remember...
(Hopefully that all makes sense, feel free to correct me if you feel I got something wrong! :O
lol :P)
Simply presenting a simulated reality that's internally logically consistent just for the sake of doing so, however, shouldn't (and isn't) the point of storytelling.
Similar to making your story complex for its own sake, it can be impressive, but it shouldn't be the point of storytelling.
Storytelling is not a philosophical vomit nor prescriptive moral systems. It's deep explorations of subject matter (theme) from all ends.
Essentially thematic development. The point of logic in a story is to psychologically ground the readers in what your trying to communicate/explore.
Basically what I'm trying to say is that there should be nuance to how this is discussed.
If your trying to write the best story you can, you shouldn't let the fact your audience doesn't know how to call you out allow you to settle to tell a worse story as a result.
I do respect this girl for sticking to her guns and not letting peer pressure determine how she wants to tell her story.
I'm also not someone who insists that every story needs to be happy, but in some cases (I'm not saying this is one) criticism is warrented.

I haven't read Animorphs but
I'm going to play devil's advocate and say that making your story realistic for its own sake doesn't make the story better written, heck, in some cases it actually makes it worse!
With that being said...

...I'm not sure why I feel that way, but its a part of me I've tried to keep alive no matter how hard things might get.
(Hopefully that all makes sense and you found what I said at least a little bit insightful though! :D
lol :P)
...I think I realized how important it is to really pay attention to what others are saying and to give them the benefit of the doubt when you are able to.
Genuine connection is important I think, and it pains me to come across people who don't feel that way...
"Its nice to hear that your doing well!"
I was genuinely surprised by how much this bothered me emotionally.
Like...
Logically this didn't mean much to me, I've tried befriending people who end up being duds all the time, it happens. Life goes on.
But...
I remember meeting this girl when I was 18. We didn't live super close to each other so our only communication option at the time was E-mail.
After a few back and forwards, I decided to start my message saying "I've been feeling pretty bad about things lately" and she responds with...
...and I somehow missed Prime 2 entirely! :O
Sorry for all these impulse replies, I got really little sleep rn which gets me to post more impulsively ig (again sorry!)
I think I made one of these top 25 charts using this exact same website before. I can link mine if your curious enough! :O
lol :P
Also I just realized
You have the three newest smash games (PM included) and no Melee OR brawl?
I probably should have made that connection before I asked my initial question, as I'm going to guess you just like your smash games to have as much stuff in them as possible (tell me if I'm wrong tho)
Also having just Zero Mission and Dread as your only Metroid games and BotW as your only Zelda game is lowkey kind of based!
(I've yet to play dread but I do really (or fairly) like ZM and BotW despite not being super fans of those franchises specifically...lol :P)
Why do you have PM but no Melee?
I'm asking out of raw curiosity just so you know...no other reason...
...roped into it despite none of the games really clicking much for me on a personal level (though I do have some VERY fond memories playing through all the campaigns of the Halo games with a close friend, but that's another story I suppose...)
lol :P
Fast forward to now and my hipster attitude towards the series has pretty much diminished, as I see it for what it is (though I will throw lighthearted jabs at it every now and again).
But yeah, COD and Halo absolutely were big deals during 6th and 7th gens, as even a non FPS baby like me was...
I think COD was harder to escape if you were that age though, as a lot of my friends were playing it, so naturally I'd be the "noob" friend who was a third wheel (I was not accustomed to FPSs at all at that age.)
2/?
As someone who was a teenager when those games came out, I was definitely the odd one out when I found myself disappointed that THIS was the new hot game series and not something more fantastical/whimsical like I grew up playing.

Can you repost this as its own post? (plz!)
I'm trying to download this video but the website I'm using for some reason doesn't work if there's a retweet (idk what its called on here) involved.
Its not just the gameplay btw, the music syncs so well and I just want to easily access it for myself.
I mean, he only appears twice before you fight him (as opposed to the five times he appears in S3 standalone) so this ironically kind of works in a weird way?! :O
lol :P
Discussing fighting game patches in the group chat
Basically...if the concept of Touhou has ever appealed to you but something about shoot em ups never stuck with you, this might have a better chance of doing so! :D
Hopefully that all helps in some way! :D
lol :P
