you cannot fathom the offloaded cost of GenAI on small web hosts. it is a veritable distributed denial of service to the entire web. Every web admin sees it.
if GenAI doesn't collapse soon, i might have to stop serving some of my services (code forge, public docs) publicly. A partner of mine used to host lists of links to various interesting places, that she had to take down because bots kept slamming the backend, and no countermeasure works well enough.
