This is a fantastic article with a lot of simple explanations in it of everyday counterintuitive bullshit, just as youβd expect from Cory Doctorow.

People who arenβt writers think writerβs block is at least as big and real a problem as I thought quicksand would be, as a child.
William Hague: Why Iβll banish βsafe spacesβ at Oxford The new chancellor tells Cheltenham Literature Festival that there will be no βcancel cultureβ and students should expect to hear things that upset them October 14 2025, The Times The new chancellor of Oxford University has said there will be no safe spaces for students and warned would-be undergraduates that they will βhear things that will upset and offend themβ.
Not once have I seen an explanation for why teenagers must hear things that upset them in virtue of the unspecified speech-acts being upsetting, nor have I ever seen an explanation for why teenagers will be forbidden to express displeasure with upsetting things.

Was thrilled to be in one of the writers' rooms for this series of DMs Are Open! This first episode has a sketch from me and some other fab writers:

Thanks Mike! I was one of the writers in the room this time (which was made up of 4 people writing for the first 2 episodes if anyone is interested). Wasn't sure if they'd keep my sketch but just listened and it made it. Shame the 15 minute runtime means they can't fit more in though!
