What do you think is the most aesthetically beautiful Doctor Who story?

I do like silent film and early cinema generally. I have always been curious about this one, never managed to catch it at Cultplex

I’ve got eight days off work coming up so I’m taking film recommendations - Any genre. Preferably sometime on DVD or streaming rather than out on the big screen as I can’t really go out those days. Thanks

A little macabre but I realise the other day it’s going to be 25 years since 9/11. TWAT (The War Against Terror) has had an undeniable impact on our lives including popular culture. What movies are worth watching that have dealt with the themes of the post 9/11 world?

I’m sorry to hear about Richard Tice and Isabel Oakshotte. Nothing’s happened to them, I’m just sorry to hear about them

Dad also just came out with this gem “Second and third generation immigrants is a nonsense phrase. The whole planet is immigrants then if you’re counting generations. I’m going to call Farage a tenth generation immigrant. I’m a fortieth generation Saxon so I can say that about this Huguenot!”

He then proceeded to tell me about how he lived opposite a bomb site teeming with rats (that I’d heard before) and that he first tasted orange juice when he was ten and the milkman gave to him cuz he’s help him take the bottles up to the top floor of the estate (that was a new one)

My 73 year old Dad just said to me “I hate when people my age post AI of “the good old days when Britain was good”. If it was so good you wouldn’t need to make it up would you!”

I highly suspect it cannot possibly live up to whatever my childhood brain imagined it would be, but Tintin is still very funny and a rollicking quick read so that’s my evening sorted!

Fast forward about 35 years and I noticed my local library in Manchester had a different Tintin title and I was like OMG do they have “Flight 714 to Sydney”? They do! I duly reserved it and it arrived today.

Maybe it’s because I had an uncle in Australia that I was very fond of, maybe it’s because 714 were the last three digits of my childhood home phone number. Either way I so wanted to read this book but my library never had it.

When I was a kid and I’d get Tintin comics out the library the back cover would show the whole collection. I don’t know why but something about the title “Flight 714 to Sydney” hooked my attention.

Beneath the flippancy is a salient point. It took 99% of those with firsthand memory of WWII passing away for fascism to spring back up again in the UK. Societal memory is roughly 70 years it seems

Am I going to understand World War Three if I haven’t seen World War’s One and Two?

At Cultplex to see The Dark Crystal. Amazingly given how much I love Labyrinth, I’ve never seen this and neither has Leslie. May Henson have mercy on our souls

Is there a good app for keeping track? I’m just writing it down on Notes on my phone. Also I have a completist soul so it annoys me I didn’t decide to start in January. Or indeed years ago
