This novel began on a camping trip to where the whales rub themselves on the beach every Sept. Waves pounding all night- energizing. Itching to create, I got up and started this writing. brilliant writers guiding me through this adventure: Cody Caetano (agent!) and Katherena Vermette (publisher!)

thank you for sharing :) I'm working on the sister story to this one, on the closing of the ceremony– through lovesong, hope and renewal. Some tears while listening to interview audio, but not like the weeping in the cut block last summer.

We were having a similar convo, and my 11 year old son quietly observed, "He quietly observes, β€œto get rid of a weed, you can’t just cut the top- you’ve got to dig out the roots.” #hope

There’s a subtle and brutal honesty in Auger’s writing that is coupled with a gentle wisdom that safely guides the reader through often difficult, but very real experiences for many Indigenous women.” www.writerstrust.com/authors/odet...

β€œWith a firm grasp of her writing tools, lived experience, and raw-edged truth, Auger has created a distinct and powerful voice β€” direct, poetic at times, and gut-wrenchingly honest at the right intervals."
