Brazil has the opportunity to bring these issues together in their high level dialogues and action agenda. Unfortunately their focus currently seems primarily on the TFFF and also on granting licences for exploration at the Amazon mouth so more international pressure is required.

π¨π΄ I was a proud Colombian to see how my government tried to bring the issue to the fore. It now rests in the hands of Brazil as Cop30 host to find a way to force international attention onto the most significant driver of risk to the Amazon and the climate crisis - expansion of fossil fuels.

A mix of recognizing the historic advance but also the historic missed opportunity and the potential costs that poses.

Itβs been a huge week in BogotΓ‘ for the Amazon Summit. The decision to adopt the Mechanism for Amazonian Indigenous Peoples participation (MAPI for its acronym in Spanish) to bring Indigenous nations into the formal governance structure of the Amazon Treaty is historic.

The Court also noted the efforts by states to develop a Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty Initiative and Plastics Treaty.
Huge congratulations to all the movements across the world that have made what seems obvious now a much clearer norm in international law.

Huge news from the InterAmerican Court. So much to process in the 300+ pages but the finding is clear and should send a message across the Americas and the world
"States are obliged to... supervise and control, as a minimum the exploration, extraction, transport and processing of fossil fuels"

Equally shitty is that this is also true at fossil fuel extraction sites: so many missing & murdered Indigenous women, in particular, have disappeared in proximity to "man camps" for oil & gas mining.

The African Development Bank did not approve any direct funding for fossil fuel projects in 2024, but its failure to exclude #FossilGas leaves the door open for backsliding.
Continued investment in gas risks locking #African countries into stranded assets, energy insecurity, and inequality.

If the club βexists to win premiershipsβ it has to ask how itβs working toward that goal with current setup. Deluded if they think Ins post bye will make a difference. I think theyβve missed a trick by not putting Marshall on long term injury list and going to MSD. Connected to Ken imo

No one says they will be phased out on current policies. Donβt rational people (and those not paid by petrostates) look at the climate crisis and say - therefore we should change those policies in order to phase out them out. Proposing any other course of action is hard to reconcile with reality?

Spring is in the air
Arctic sea ice extent for March set a record low in the 47-year satellite data record. Extent was below average everywhere except the East Greenland Sea.
Arctic sea ice extent for March set a record low since satellite monitoring started 47 years ago
The amount of ice "missing", compared to 1979, is an area the size of Alaska!
March is when Arctic sea ice extent hits its maximum, before declining to minimum, usually Sept

A great start to an historic event in Cartagena. Intersections btwn clean air, human health and our energy systems have never been clearer. We face a real cross roads on public priorities - we can keep paying our own public money to burn our lungs and our climate or we can choose the side of life!

Speaking from Argentina @fernandocabrera.bsky.social says itβs not only air pollution. whatβs officially called βwater consumptionβ in Vaca Muerta - is the pollution, waste and theft of public waters on a grand scale to push an export led growth scheme which has not worked for the community so far
