People feel like they have perfect license to just make things up about trans women - and the expectation they should know what they're talking about or know the situation the opine on or anything at all is considered unreasonable and maybe immoral.

That Evan Urquhart weighed in and made the whole thing worse is another reminder that the reason he's tolerated by cis liberals as a trans journalist is his completely inability to parse or disinterest in parsing power relations.

As an even modestly online person, much less a journalist whose entire career at this point occurs online, there is no plausibility to claiming you "didn't know what would happen" when you derisively put a trans woman without social capital or resources on blast.
