I want to thank all people involved in this project, and especially Priyanka Rao-Ruiz, Michel van den Oever, Sabine Spijker and Guus Smit!
5/5 These findings suggest that engram cells undergo different trajectories in structural synaptic connectivity which may be critical for the refinement and maintenance of engram networks over time.
4/5 At the level of excitatory CA3 to CA1 engram cells, parameters including spine density, clusters, volume, and types revealed that the structural landscape of CA1 engram cell synapses is influenced by contextual valence, reactivation status of an engram cell, or a combination thereof.
3/5 In doing so, we developed an analysis pipeline which allows for semi-automatic reconstruction of spines and dendrites and takes nested data structure into account during statistical analyses which is accessible on GitHub.

2/5 Upon contextual memory retrieval, only a subset of engram cells is being reactivated. Here, we probed whether structural synaptic connectivity differs between reactivated and non-reactivated hippocampal engram cells after recent memory retrieval depending on context valence.
I am excited to announce that my first first-author paper is now published in a special issue on "Deciphering the memory engramβ in Neurobiology of Learning and Memory in which we describe βStructural synaptic signatures of contextual memory retrieval-reactivated hippocampal engram cells".
