I, too, advocate my medically fragile son with disabilities. Utah is trying to 'get out of the business of Medicaid' thereby ending home and community based waivers, and leaving only institutionalization as the only option.

WTH?

Ableism makes you think you will be the exception.

Disability won’t happen to you.

You’re “better than that”.

You’re “stronger”.

You will succeed where the rest of us failed.

It’s not true. Disability can & does happen to almost everyone.

It’s not a moral failing.

I simply can't avoid it. Parker's life is at risk. It's done a huge number on my mental health, I'm not going to lie. They already referred to Brammer's Medicaid Doomsday Bill as a way to deal with Medicaid costs.

This year we are going to need MANY more voices and eyeballs following. ❤️

The ACA isn't just "health care for people who don't have a conventional employer." It also disallows something that was incredibly common 20 years ago, which I fear is getting lost to generational memory: insurance companies could deny you health care for essentially any previous health problem.

Apparently they didn't sit in on Ken Ivory's Federalism Committee and how they are resurrecting Brady Brammer's Medicaid bill intended to bring about doomsday for those like my son Parker.

Utah is revving up their battle to institutionalize those who rely on home and community based Medicaid waivers in order to stay out of institutions and remain in their homes with their families. Irony? Living at home is over 3x LESS expensive than institutions. #utah #disability #downsyndrom

Casual reminder that the myth of “pulling yourself up by your bootstraps” is a cruel hoax designed to convince poor people from all walks of life that the injustices they face are a result of their own actions, rather than an oppressive system rigged against them.

The 8 Dems who voted against ACA are embracing eugenics.

This decision will disproportionately harm disabled people.

Many Disabled people have pre existing conditions & won’t be able to afford insurance.

Many live in legislated poverty.

He made 35k a year which was “too much” for Medicaid, but not nearly enough to cover insurance premiums

He had to ration his insulin & died a month after losing insurance
