My latest publication is really an endorsement of an excellent new book on French-Australian links in the Humanities, written by other people and edited masterfully by Bertrand Bourgeois et al. It's in the new issue of the French Studies journal liverpooluniversitypress.co.uk/toc/fs/79/4

I always love language section in Foyles and am even more enamoured today since I found a Wolof book. A translation of a fairly well known title... #wolof #senegal #foyles #worldliterature #africanlanguages

I know several schoolteachers in languages (some of whom were my classmates at @uniofbath.bsky.social who are making this argument for imperfection in language studies, suggesting schools are deterring students and results driven teachers from language study by making it too hard early on.

Great to see our colleague and friend SiobhΓ‘n Shilton delivering her inaugural lecture as Professor of French last night. She’s actually been professor the whole time we’ve been here, and seems like she’s been a colleague much longer πŸ™‚

Got to see a reading and talk by author Caryl Phillips, who has inspired my academic work in many ways. Good to see Bristol Uni's Caribbean Studies Studio up and running too #afropean #literature @uobartsmatter.bsky.social

Weberfest uber alles. Great to be reunited with friends and colleagues from Northwestern University and to celebrate the 35th and final anniversary of the Paris Program in Critical Theory of Samuel Weber which we enjoyed being part of 20 years ago! #northwesternuniversity #paris

About time, although a speech would have been better than a letter.

It’s twice as long and possibly twice as funny as the predecessor, but plot wise and in terms of contribution to discourse, you probably have it. Seems like a cash grab, really.

Say what you will about the literary quality of Faiza Guene’s work, her cutting humour still gets me. β€œLes stars montantes de l’élΓ©gance sans chaussettes « ! I deal with that every day here in Cardiff #literature #humour #frenchliterature
