I'll ask another theological question like I sometimes do. Is it required for Christians to believe in original sin? Is it part of some creed or something, or is it just a thing that's there?

Reprisals in kind to war crimes have always been allowed subject to certain conditions, namely not targeting civilians, happening after a warning, and happening under competent authority.
The first criterion is the only one that's questionable.
Reprisals are technically allowed if civilians aren't targeted. And I'd say that we don't know how much actual danger the civilians on those planets were in. Benefit of the doubt, they may have been in little or no danger.

I'm VERY VERY VERY grateful to be in the bracket where an ambulance call isn't a concern for me. Someone in my family got billed $5000 for a 1 mile ride, but was able to argue it down to zero. I'm not in the bracket where I don't have to worry about medevac though.
