#Genealogy #52Ancestors Paying attention to handwritten notes in a printed genealogy added credibility, because I recognized the handwriting. These valuable updates were made by people who actually knew the ancestors. #FamilyHistory climbingmyfamilytree.blogspot.com/2026/03/payi...
#Genealogy #FamilyHistory The New York State Census has been very useful for following my immigrant ancestors from arrival (they appeared in the 1892 NY Census) to the last state Census (in 1925). One key question: where/when naturalized.
#NotAtRootsTech #Genealogy Good tip...and look for any handwritten changes that might shed light on the contents or change the clues you follow up on! Can you determine who made the edits? Bonus points because can affect credibility #FamilyHistory
#NotAtRootsTech #FamilyHistory Watched this 'club' talk and downloaded the handout, very intriguing to think about finding ancestors in documents/photos/news items/materials of a social or civic organization!
Each session has a place for "Join chat" at right of screen. See my yellow oval. Chrome, signed into FamSearch. Hope this works!!
Chrome, and I'm signed into FamSearch, saw chat on right of screen and clicked to join chat. Hope you can see it? Will check back soon, on lunch break #NotAtRootsTech

#NotAtRootsTech Delighted about a non-recorded session because of a super-detailed handout: Best Practices in Locating Your Immigrant Ancestor's Ship Manifest, by Adina Newman. Direct links to passenger lists for NY/non-NY ports of entry, plus lots of great tips for #Genealogy of immigrant ancestors
#Genealogy #FamilyHistory Sending for an Alien Registration AR-2 form to learn more about great-great aunt Eva who married great-great uncle Joe in March of 1980. The couple, both immigrants in New York, had 6 children but only 3 survived childhood. climbingmyfamilytree.blogspot.com/2026/03/what...
That's her! She mentions Shropshire in her letters to my family. Maybe that's where my aunt was stationed, but I got the impression Edna had family there. I've traced Edna's husband (& his sad death), know her children's names/dates. Edna was a kind soul to befriend a young woman so far from home.
Yes! She lived in Stone, Staffordshire, according to the return address. More of Edna's family lived (or went to school) in Shropshire, according to the letters, but no specific addresses, sorry to say. #FamilyHistory
Have a great time, pls post about your #Genealogy adventures for those of us who will be #NotAtRootsTech!
#Genealogy #FamilyHistory When my aunt served as a WAC in England, France, Belgium during #WWII, she was befriended by a lovely lady in Shropshire. Wartime letters written by that lady to my family illuminate home-front thoughts & feelings climbingmyfamilytree.blogspot.com/2026/03/why-...
