Read Christina Cogdell, read @cyborgapologist.bsky.social, read @fractalecho.bsky.social, read @shirachess.bsky.social, read the history of "AI" and the internet and on and on and on. It's… it's all right there.

New tools for understanding AI and learning outcomes OpenAI introduces the Learning Outcomes Measurement Suite to assess AI’s impact on student learning across diverse educational environments over time.

Under no circumstances should we allow OpenAI to become the self-authorized educational research evidenve source that it is trying to be. Vendors must not be research authorities. openai.com/index/unders...

Research Communities by Springer Nature

"For many, it has become a magic box: problem + AI = profit."

"There is a lot of effort spent in making systems more fair, without ever asking if the system itself is fundamentally designed to cause harm, whether it's egalitarian about it or not."

Rua M Williams's Disabling Intelligences: Legacies of Eugenics and How We are Wrong about AI, publushed by palgrave macmillan, is held in front of rainbow glass. The cover is deep pink with orange vines.

This book is titled “Disabling Intelligences” for many reasons. First, because so-called “AI” is built from historical commitments to the excision of disability from the classification of humanity.

I have only just recently started digging into data centres and water, and the way companies are hiding vital information is beyond belief. It is so, so dodgy.

The entire project to widely popularise the idea these concerns are "fake" makes so much sense in this context

This.

Regardless of whatever whiz-bam cool "feature" is touted, these military ghouls don't actually care if it does a better job at finding targets.

The real utility of a tool like Claude in this situation is *accountability dodging*.

"The computer told me to do it."

Reform fury as someone else wins
by Our By-election Editor
Tim Shipsink
The losing candidate in the Gorton and Denton by-election, Matt Goodwhinge, has demanded an immediate re-run of the election on the grounds that he lost
comprehensively to someone else.
"It's totally unfair and rigged,"
said Goodwhinge.
"I shouldn't
be required to sit there and suck it up, just because I lost."
Mr Goodwhine continued, *I can't believe that all those voters I demonised failed to back me.
Especially after I was endorsed by Tommy Robinson and ten million Russian bots on X.
"We have clear evidence of family voting, where people voted in order for me to stop deporting their families."
Mr Badloser concluded. "I'm the victim of colour prejudice.
They didn't vote for me simply because I'm not green."
Reform leader
Mr Farage,
speaking from a sun lounger on a rock near the Chagos Islands said,
"It's a tragedy that the people of Manchester won't see Matt in Westminster, but my constituents don't see me in Clacton either."

PLUMBER DEFEATS

Beautiful from Private Eye on the massive toddler-tantrum that Matt Goodwin and Reform are having, because they got whooped in Gorton and Denton.

I think we can translate that as:

"We're going to smash the country to bits, collapse the state and hand it over to warlords to facilitate looting"

Pace of global warming has nearly doubled since 2015, reveals study - Carbon Brief An acceleration in human-caused global warming could see the Paris Agreement’s 1.5C limit breached before...

I'm not suggesting this is an open secret within the climate science community, but it's remarkable how little impact this sort of research is generating. Because if the rate of warming really has *doubled* then you can kiss goodbye to 2°C. www.carbonbrief.org/pace-of-glob...

There’s something like Stockholm syndrome at work in UK politics. People who’ve been harmed the most keep defending the ones doing the harm.
