The disparity between US prices and those in other countries has always amazed me. There are wild differences here, too. In Alaska most settlements are off the road system, so fuel has to be barged or flown in. They can pay 3-4x compared to those connected by the roads.

March 2, 2026, Gasoline averaged $3.148 per gallon in the US. It rose to $3.45 within a week. Next week should be fun as this happens.

I like your holistic point of view. Cars are just gears in a much bigger machine. ALL costs (financial, pollution, quality of life) must be taken into account to improve the system.
