Hi 👋 excited to see everyone and catch up.
Hi 👋 excited to see everyone and catch up.
A5 #LTHEChat shared ownership so it doesn't rely on specific people to coordinate.
I really like the idea of a Q&A phone in with a panel of pedagogical agony aunts and uncles answers people's T&L quandries.
A6 #LTHEchat a heady mix of pedagogy and regional banter, to engage, inspire and amuse.
A5 #LTHEchat variety is always good. It provides another medium with which to share and another way for people to access CPD so I think it has a part to play in the rich tapestry.
A4 #LTHEchat I love music and always have it on but coming from a hearing impaired family I am always really careful about using anything that can't be transcribed in teaching. Hearing aids will pick up every sound equally so speech and music at the same time can be particularly problematic.
Very enjoyable two days with the Radical Open Access conference. Thanks to all the panelists and participants.
Here is the pamphlet we produced for the event: 'Publishing Activism within/without a Toxic University'

Recognising that the reality of the coach will also change through the coaching relationship. Learning is in both directions and will strengthen your practice not just the learners #LTHEchat
I was thinking about this too. It made me think about Fairclough' s 'Language and Power' and trying to understand the interplay of words, meaning and their social context. #LTHEchat
A5 Appreciative Inquiry where you focus on the strengths and successes of the present and use them to imagine and create the future. #LTHEchat
A4 dialogue as an accompaniment to other activity. Small, quick informal dialogue after tasks as a habit.
A3 one thing I found in my own journey from engineer to educator was the concept of 'writing to learn/think' not just as an output. #LTHEChat
To true. Also disorientating when trying to get disciplinary staff to think about SoTL if different to their own disciplinary approaches.
A5 Well my research is SoTL so getting students to help design and execute projects. Perhaps my favourite one is immunologywars.com which helps decontextualise immunology teaching via the characters of Star Wars #LTHEchat
Love this! Do you find that students are from specific subjects or do you get a spread?
This is fab!
A5 this is tricky, but normalising students (not just phd candidates) as co-authors in ethical and genuine ways is important #LTHEchat
A4 having the confidence to start small might help some. It doesn't need to be a big or long project. It can start with honest, authentic conversations #LTHEchat
A1 Knowledge creation is not the bastion of one group or one 'eschelon' of education, so there is a lot to gain and learn as educators by embracing co-creation #LTHEchat.
Such a hard culture to challenge. Sometimes the art is in persuading other educators to see the opportunities that can be created by creative and active pedagogies that do both at the same time. #LTHEchat
A5 I always find it interesting that on Access or Foundation courses there is a willingness to design study skills in, but this then tails off at higher levels, arguably, as they need them more. #LTHEchat
A4 I've tried embedding spiral learning techniques with my L7 to build criticality en route to their assessment. I've been explicit about its use as well as including ideas for applying the technique beyond my module. #LTHEchat
A3 I'm a strong believer in modelling behaviour/strategies/skills in authentic ways. Being honest about things you tried that did/didn't work. #LTHEchat
So true. Getting them to be more creative/innovative in their approaches and to keep trying new things. #LTHEchat
A2 nothing more frustrating than when something that previously worked for them in school doesn't work for HE, and they can't decipher why. It's a tough challenge to try to persuade them to try something new. #LTHEchat
A1, for me they are the means by which students connect to the material in a meaningful and lasting way to create deep, rather than superficial learning. #LTHEchat
Scepticism has long been underrated as a general life skill not just in academia.
I agree. There may be perhaps additional nuances to AIs inclusion but its part of the same conversation. #LTHEchat
A5 I really like approaches which re-centre the discussion with students on how they develop their academic voice and the help and/or hindrance AI can be in that process. #LTHEchat
