Today weβre making a dead hedge using wood from pruned fruit trees and a downed elder.
Dead wood habitats are extremely important for a whole host of species. We never burn wood or brash or take it off site; it gets turned into dead hedges or log piles.

Scientific Shot of a Peacock mantis shrimp eyes which are the most advanced in the animal world. Photo by Daniel Sasse.
the mantis shrimp has 16 types of color receptors.
humans have 3.
we see roughly 10 million colors and think that's impressive.
the mantis shrimp is sitting there processing a visual reality so hyperchromatic that scientists genuinely aren't sure what it's like to be one.

Every time a woman runs for president I hear that sheβs too emotional and unstable to make wartime decisions, unlike the men in charge who make really reasonable decisions like bombing kids to death, starting water wars, and poisoning the entire planet
This is even more enjoyable because she's obviously doing the evil tory thing of going on comedy panel shows to make herself seem likeable π
Absolutely loving this classic example of a neurodivergent person making everyone deeply uncomfortable by speaking truth to power π

βthe thinker of tender thoughtsβ by shel silverstein [an illustration depicting a boy growing into a man. as he grows, his hair grows out as flowers. people laugh at him for it and he becomes sad. he starts trimming off the flowers, but as he reaches the last one he stops. he is then depicted with a smile and a flower in his buttonhole on his jacket.]

Native plants donβt need a big garden.
This shady porch has a tiny woodland in pots: hartβs-tongue fern, polypody, wild garlic, wood pansy, bluebell, lords-and-ladies and more.
Irish woodland species are perfectly happy in containers if you recreate shade and leaf-rich soil.
My photo shows a museum display with colourful Minoan pottery cups arranged on three clear shelves, one above the other. These cups, known as Kamares Ware, are from Phaistos, Crete. They were made in palace workshops, c. 1800-1700 BC. The cups range in shape and size from conic and cylindrical cups (top and middle shelves) to hemispherical and carinated shaped cups (bottom shelf). They are decorated with multi-coloured geometric motifs; with spirals and swirls painted in red and white pigment on black.
Sipping my coffee βοΈ and thinking about these marvellous Minoan cups!
They look so modern itβs incredible to think they were made during the Bronze Age some 3,800 years ago!

First thing in a morning when the adults resume feeding every youngster wants feeding. I spent a week looking at this image on the contents page of the Radio Times, cursing the BBC for not using one of my images. In my defense they had flipped it left to right and cropped it to a circle so I couldn't see enough of the interior of the nest box to identify it.

Frilly golden leaves
A columbine flower with white central petals and pink outer ones
When the world gives you so much to dread having something to look forward to helps. Seeing the first columbine leaves and knowing that soon they'll flower keeps me sane!! It's a golden leaved variety not sick ππ± ( the flowers are from a different one with green leaves)
Pets are so weird like it's just this little individual that lives in your house and you can't speak to each other but you're just best friends.
