Some shitty platforms are tolerable. I was willing to tolerate Discord despite the constant Nitro ad infestedness. For work mostly, as I can contact friends outside of it.
The recent stuff was the big no for me. I know they pushed it back and all but they only did that bc we complained.
I mean this with all the kindness I can muster: This is the nature of online platforms, get used to it.
Don't put your eggs in one basket, do not rely on one platform, always have backup ones.

Platforms start off good when they're indie, they get a bit better with modest income generation.
Eventually, many get corporate, make their platform unbearable and want your money. If they don't, that's an exception and not a rule!
I started with MSN and AIM. I had YIM for a bit simultaneously. Eventually, I stopped using YIM. I stopped using AIM after that. I got Skype. Used Skype and MSN simultaneously for years til MSN went away.
Then in 2017 Skype became unbearably shit and I moved to Discord (which was great at the time)
You literally can keep the same friends, Discord doesn't own your friends and you shouldn't view things as if it does.
If its a big server, can't you DM the people closest to you and just have contact elsewhere? Shouldn't you have that even if you weren't leaving a platform, just in case?
Your friendship will be the same, it doesn't HAVE to be Discord...
If Discord is what makes or breaks your bond, I don't know what to tell you...
What do people mean when they say they will "lose their entire friend group" if they move away from Discord?
Can't you simply communicate with your friend group and just all elect to move somewhere else together?
It's part of being online. If a platform becomes shit, you move to another.
