LTP1 enhanced cowpea resistance against Botrytis cinerea. A, Symptoms induced by B. cinerea in cowpea leaves overexpressing LTP1. Lesions were observed at 48 h postinoculation (hpi) of B. cinerea. Scale bar = 1.5 cm.
Plant lipid transfer proteins (LTPs), belonging to the pathogenesis-related protein 14 family, participate in plant immune response to biotic stress. Jie Ji et al. analyzed the role of LTP1 in plant resistance to eukaryotic pathogens: https://doi.org/10.1094/MPMI-04-25-0041-SC

Plants monitor the integrity of their barrier by sensing gas diffusion - Nature
A study using Arabidopsis shows that plants can monitor the integrity of their outer barriers by sensing gas diffusion, enabling them to initiate wound repair to prevent water loss and pathogen entry.
Plants can sense when their barrier is injuredβand repair it! π±
This stunning work, led by Hiroyuki Iida, shows that wounding is sensed through the diffusion of two gases: ethylene and oxygen.
I had the pleasure of contributing and see this project grow.

The mechanical properties of Arabidopsis thaliana roots adapt dynamically during development and to stress
Brillouin microscopy reveals in vivo dynamics of mechanical properties during plant development and response to stress.
Our work now on its final version. We mapped the mechanical properties of roots at tissue and single cell levels using Brillouin microscopy and molecular rotors. Additional mutants and stress measurements from what we previously showed in the preprint are included.
