And in this week, the US/IDF is literally is starting a religious war in the Middle East while a JP mmo is capitalizing on orientalism again. The timing is diabolical and I’m losing my mind over here.

Take, for example, these images. The details of each one are in the alt text, but the main point is that each country has its own countless subcultures. Ignoring these distinctions inherently communicates that they’re not worth learning about because the “Orient” is inferior.

A much better way to honour Middle Eastern culture would be to pick one of them and learn about it specifically. The world recognises readily enough that Sweden and France (for example) have vastly different cultures. The same should apply to everywhere else.

The outfits in XIV do this very blatantly. The top is vaguely like an Indian sari, the sandals look sort of Egyptian, the harem trousers are kinda Persian, and the medallions are either Moroccan or Ottoman with no distinction. This results in them being pure orientalist slop.

Of course! The sexualisation is, of course, a major issue. Middle Eastern women have been fetishised for centuries (see: harem tropes + the reduction of bellydancing to seduction rather than art).

However, it’s also how Orientalism homogenises entire regions and cultures.

We don’t live in a vacuum. We’ve had decades of writing and advocacy against Orientalism. Do your homework and do better.

I’m so sick of orientalism in fiction. I’m so sick of the blatantly sexualised and fetishised amalgams of a dozen cultures into one homogenous “exotic” blob. I’m so sick of White people saying I’m “reading too much into it” or “being performative” when it’s MY culture being bastardised.

I love thinking about all of Jullus' friends, BUT ESPECIALLY THIS GUY. He's too funny, like we know supplies are running low and they have priorities AND YET HE SOMEHOW HAS HAIRGEL

Sav witnessed many within his community become casualties, including his father. That was when he vowed he'd never feel such despair and helplessness ever again -- an upbringing and survivalist mindset that still effects him and scars him in the present day.

Sav grew up in a labor village in Garlean occupied Gyr Abania and that entails all the tragedy and horror you'd expect and have heard of in the game, sadly. The worst anguish was during 1.0 when Nael ordered daily killings of workers to complete Project Meteor where+ #SavLore

I wanted a character that wasn't green and so I took a step towards the warmer side on the color wheel. All of my characters tend to lean towards a green color palette, often via their hair. So when I first made Sav in-game, he did start with green hair until I realized his character more #SavLore

Trans men being pregnant/having boobs *could* trigger someone's dysphoria yes, but that's not something you ask a trans man to TW for? It's impossible to make a single generalized "rule" about things as personal as gender expression, individual transness, and dysphoria.

To me they kind of write Source G'raha as if he's a continuation of the Exarch, but "freed" from his burdens on the First, but they also don't elaborate much on that transition so sadly, it leads to that 2 entities differentiation😭
