Cover of _Salmon Run_ by Annie Chen. A watercolor illustration of the life cycle of salmon with green underwater plants swirling around a full grown salmon and it's earlier life stages as they circle a glowing orange egg.

Watercolors transport the reader to a water world,
revealing the salmon's lifecycle. So simple, so elegant.
It's enough to learn one beautiful thing about the world. π

Yup. It was such a broad voter suppression proposal that the defeat doesn't say anything about the popularity of a voter ID requirement.

"Do you want to change Maine election laws to eliminate two days of absentee voting, prohibit requests for absentee ballots by phone or family members, end ongoing absentee voter status for seniors and people with disabilities, ban prepaid postage on absentee ballot return envelopes, limit the number of drop boxes, require voters to show certain photo ID before voting, and make other changes to our elections?"
It was so much more than voter ID. So even though the voter ID element alone should have killed it, in this case I think most voters would see something in it that would impact them or someone they're connected to. I'm not sure you can use this victory to draw conclusions about voter ID laws.

Cover of the picture book I'm Longer Than You: An Epic Contest of Measurement by Carolyn Fisher. A cartoon blue whale and supersaurus share a red speech bubble with the title in it.

into delight and play.β¨

Plus, AWESOME backmatter:

Cover of the picture book Late Today by Jungyoon Huh, illustrated by Myungae Lee, translated by Aerin Park. A black kitten sits under a car in the rain. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/223924760-late-today?ac=1&from_search=true&qid=zdqP0ZT9bw&rank=1
Marvelous drawings of a traffic jam
and that rain-heavy sky
and so many looking away,
as a kitten crosses traffic.
But someone...
_screeech!_
A meditation
a provocation
a call to be late...
just in time.
I kept thinking,
"We're all this kitten."

Super intrigued! Integrating science and story, fact and feeling, is certainly my dream, so I can't wait to read it. In the meantime, can you say anything more about the science part? I'm puzzling over the "trillions of years ago" timeline in a universe much younger than that. What am I missing?

Colorful cover of Papa's Magical Water Jug Clock by JesΓΊs Trejo and Eliza Kinkz. A boy rides a purple skateboard with a red water jug down a suburban sidewalk, as his father was a lawn in the background.
Working class occupations are sooooo underrepresented in #Kidlit. More of this please!
@jesustrejo.bsky.social masterfully turns an ordinary water jug into the golden thread on which the story beats are strung. And @elizakinkz.bsky.social makes nonstop fun of line and color.
