Honoured to host Chinese Consul General Zhao Liying at City Hall for a discussion about attracting investment, expanding trade, building on our sister‑city ties with Daqing, and the important role of Calgary’s Chinese community. Strong relationships mean more opportunity and jobs for Calgarians.

Following news showing triple‑digit provincial tax hikes across the Calgary region, I fully agree with Mayors Dean and Spearman. Clarity is essential. Albertans must clearly see what they’re paying to the province vs municipalities --- and governments must communicate that distinction clearly.

Despite low oil prices, our Council team and City staff delivered a modest surplus, boosted public safety and infrastructure, and kept our tax increase lower than inflation (1.6%). We're focused on financial management, transparency, and sharing results: www.calgary.ca/our-finances... #yyccc

Due to the critical condition of the Bearspaw South Feeder Main (BSFM) and its importance in Calgary’s drinking water system, we will be reinforcing the most vulnerable segments of the pipe.

My vision is for the City to be run like a high-performing company. That includes transparency for taxpayers and ensuring pay is appropriate for top officials. Council will soon debate my motion to publish detailed executive compensation information and strengthen accountability.

The Provincial government has increased their property taxes on Calgarians by 57% over four years, well above inflation and population growth. We've not seen anywhere near that level of increase in services.

If I've got this right, #yyc has got some water restrictions coming up on March 9. Planned restrictions, which means we have time to prepare! So pretty soon we're going to start seeing some messaging from @calgary.ca to help citizens get ready, right? @jeromyyyc.bsky.social @daorcey.bsky.social

Nearly half your property tax bill goes to Edmonton as a transfer payment. Their take is up 57% in four years. Now they're demanding 21% more, about $339 per household, this year alone.

Edmontonians are being asked to pay $154 more. Let’s work together for a fair deal for Calgary. 2/2

Those funds were ultimately returned to reserves, not misappropriated. They were spent on projects like the new arena.

We did our work to restrain spending while focusing on safety and core infrastructure. The City’s increase is 1.81%.

The provincial government is imposing the largest property tax increase in Calgary’s history.

Calgarians are facing more than double the increase of Edmonton.

+$339 per home in Calgary.
+$154 in Edmonton.

Albertans deserve a system that is transparent, balanced, and fair.

Meanwhile, our City Council team cares about affordability. We controlled costs, reduced a 5.4% tax increase to 1.6%, and delivering on safety and core infrastructure investments.

The City is legally required to collect this massive tax increase.

For a typical $706,000 home:

We’ve got some neat historic trails I’d love to revive that could connect our municipalities. The Mayor’s great work in the creation of the Regional Roundtable is the perfect opportunity to do it! I’d agree that @matticusssss.bsky.social has been one of the best advocates for this idea!

There is something deeply gratifying about leaving your local community and arriving in another by bike. This will lead to more cafΓ© and service engagement and promote bike/ebike sales and rentals. It also offers an alternative commute option in the age of ebikes.
