Overall score: 8/10. It’s a serviceable modern RE game. Better than 5, 6, 7 and 8, but worse that 2, 3, and 4.
Grace is a good addition to the cast. The gameplay works well. Overall, it holds up to the rest of the series.
Things I wished wanted to see:
The other Raccoon City survivors. At least more direct references.
If they’re all infected, then why is only Leon heading over to Raccoon City for answers? Heck, Leon and Sherry don’t even mention Claire at all in the game.
Some Outbreak references.
*SPOILERS* Story 7/10.
The idea of the Raccoon City survivors being infected with a dormant form of the T-Virus is interesting.
Not a fan of how they retconned some parts of the Raccoon City Incident. Did like the reminiscing at the RPD.
Zeno was truly a useless addition to the plot.
*SPOILERS* Enemies (PT2)
Was not a fan of bosses basically getting ported from RE2 and RE3. Super Tyrant fight was basically RE2 Tyrant lite, and the final boss is literally an easier Nemesis. A lot of the enemies kept giving me “I’ve seen this before” vibes.
*SPOILERS* Enemies: 7/10. (PT1)
There are a lot of enemy varieties in this game. The zombies here were actually probably the hardest to deal with in the RE franchise.
Some enemies lacked creativity, though. Did we need to see a licker again?
*SPOILERS* Main Characters: 7/10. LOVE Grace as a character and that we see her grow throughout the game.
Love that Sherry plays an important, Hunnigan-like role here as well.
Not super excited to see Leon again. Would have liked to see a different main character, but it is what it is.
Replayability: 7/10. Largely, I would replay the game to unlock everything. There ARE some sections that I would enjoy playing less than others, but nothing so egregious like the Minecart section in 4. I enjoy the oodles of unlockables and hidden files to find.
Graphics: 9/10. RE Engine has always done graphics well. RE9 looks great. Environments look great. Enemies look great. Some graphical options, like pathtracing, currently cause microstuttering on high end systems. Point docked for that persistent film grain effect that there isn’t a toggle for.
Exploration: 10/10. There are several exploration hubs. The environments are fleshed out, and there are lots of hidden easter eggs to find. Best exploration hub is mid game. Exploration makes up roughly 6/10ths of the game, imo.
Difficulty Balance: 7/10. Basing it on normal/standard, since that’s what most people will choose to play it on. Game is mostly fair with its difficulty. There are SOME sections where what you need to do isn’t obvious and results in dumb deaths, but those are few and far between..
Pacing: 6/10. Story is REALLY slow in the beginning. Once it picks up, it’s good. End of the game is paced well, and doesn’t feel abrupt.
Gameplay: 9/10. Really enjoyed both types of gameplay. Won’t spoil the mechanics, but there’s a horror and an action gameplay split. Both work well. Horror section gives RE7, while action gameplay gives RE4.
FINALLY beat re9 requiem. I have some thoughts.

Game also had some performance issues on PC. I was getting microstutters with a 5090.
Had to turn off path tracing to get the stutters manageable.
HATE what they did to my baddie reporter queen Alyssa, but I’ll live. Sucks to play Outbreak now knowing her fate, but W/E.
