Oh no! Lose British spelling?! π
Awesome! Thanks, looking forward to that π
π My curiosity is piqued! Looks like it takes inspiration from #rstats and #python and adds in some whole new interesting ideas. When term gets less crazy will be interested to play with this.
Yes, swipe up to force exit after a session, then reopen app. Thanks, this is an amazing v1 and so smooth in all other testing so far!
Been loving testing this. Small thing, itβs not saving all deps on pkg install. For example, install {mlmc} which pulls in {Rcpp}, load {mlmc} package and functions run fine. However, force quit the iOS app and upon reopening {mlmc} still there, but `library(mlmc)` gives an error that Rcpp missing?
Promotional image for webRios showing the app icon and an iPhone displaying the R console. The console shows example R commands with syntax highlighting: basic arithmetic (1 + 1), a print statement saying 'Hello from iOS!', a warning message in orange reading 'Uh-oh, I'm in the Apple-verse?', an error message in red with the HAL 9000 quote 'I'm sorry, Dave. I'm afraid I can't do that.', and a plot command.
webRios is live. #rstats on your iPhone and iPad.
I showed native R compilation on #iOS last week. Shipping it is another story (thanks, GPL). This version uses #webR 's #WebAssembly build instead. Different tradeoffs, but this one clears App Review.

Thanks to claude code, I wrote my first iphone app:
apps.apple.com/us/app/time-...
It's what I have always wanted for a talk timer (as both a speaker and a chair). It's very minimal, designed to be read from across the room, and make it clear when you're running out of time.

Actual academics:
ββ¦ the agencyβs overall budget will rise in line with inflation at 2 per cent β¦β
Inflation is not 2% and hasnβt been for a very long time. So UKRI funding continues to fall in real terms, with even more accelerated decline for curiosity-driven research, would perhaps be a more accurate portrayal.
Back in the top 10, baby!
Eat your heart out, "#rstats is dying" thinkpieces. π

Congratulations to Fernando Zepeda on their viva today at @warwickstats.bsky.social; I spent a very enjoyable afternoon with @louisaslett.bsky.social discussing Fernando's thesis, "Non-Reversible Extensions of the ALPS Methodology for Multimodal and Transdimensional Sampling".
Higher education is one of the UK's most important exports. This policy would cripple many of the UK's leading universities. It's equivalent to slaughtering the goose that lays the golden eggs.

Note that optically thatβs also the gentle presentation of the numbers β¦ a 10% reduction requires an 1/(1-0.1) = 1.111 => 11.1% pay increase to restore. For a 22.1% reduction thatβs a 1/(1-0.221) = 1.284 => 28.4% pay increase to restore.
I hadn't had a good laugh like that in ages. Big thanks to the economists at the federal reserve.
The detectCores() apocalypse is creeping up on us π»π
As more people are getting access to 128+ CPU cores, code spinning up parallel cluster with detectCores() workers fails - not enough #RStats connections available
Friends, do *not* default to detectCores(), bc www.jottr.org/2022/12/05/a...

Have been inspired by reading how many people get their news there and how dominated it is by the right.
