there's an aspect of the rapid uptake of AI I don't see people talk about much which is something like, "fear of expression." it's not just easier in terms of time or effort to have AI do something, the end product also doesn't confront you with any kind of self-knowledge

I think what really bothers me about this is that the people in the quotes trying to play off of this take this very strange tone about "scientists" like they're these friendly animals whose natural instinct is simply to find and share the truth, totally separate from human considerations

scientists as a class are not conspiring to keep secret knowledge from you. but the scientific community relies on a certain degree of trust and it doesn't take every member of it betraying that trust for the production of knowledge to get messed up
