Gentoo penguins breed in large colonies on ice-free coasts, often returning to the same nesting sites each year. They build pebble nests and lay two eggs, which are incubated for about 34–37 days. After hatching, chicks join crèches for warmth and protection until they fledge in 80–90 days.

The water beads up rather than soaking in thanks to the wing’s hydrophobic (water-hating) surface, a natural adaptation that helps the butterfly stay light and flight-ready even in damp conditions. Amazing to think that these wings were once tightly folded inside a chrysalis!

Black swans are native to New Zealand and Australia, often seen in estuaries and coastal wetlands. They feed on aquatic plants, form lifelong pairs, and raise their young in flocks. Graceful swimmers, they’re social, vocal, and surprisingly common in places where they once seemed mythical.
