This is low key the most fucked up and chickenshit depraved thing thatβs happened so far, although the competition is fierce
maybe from this
I think itβs helpful to keep things in perspective
Also kind of crazy that we're having this respectful/nuanced (and for me productive) conversation over the exact lines of antisemitism in our fakakte media environment when this is what's going on with Rs. (and @housemajoritypac.bsky.social - put this stuff on here, people should see it)
This wasn't even a Justice Dems recruit, it was Daniel ... I'm spacing on his last name. It's in the long-ass Politico article. I met him, he's fine. The blame for this really should be on the DC/DSCC recruitment atrocities. They've been so awful for so long they made alternatives inevitable.
He didn't say "Israel did 9/11" either though. I agree the conspiracy stuff is dumb but trying to weaponize all of this as equally bad antisemitism is what's really helpful to Bibi, which is why it's a line places like Insider are pushing. They're trying to do another Tlaib on him.
kinda needed this today. i wish the fucking arc of history would bend a little more consistently towards justice. but it does bend.
The single biggest most critical difference for me is clearly and consistently differentiating between Israel (criticism very much in bounds, particularly this week) and "the Jews." (red flags) The Insider piece (agreed, they are sus) conflates them in a way Cornacchia actually doesn't.
That's not what Cornacchia said though, in that article or from what I watched. He "claimed Israel would benefit if another 9/11-style attack" happened. So he's a crank and a bit of a nut, but that for me is a fairly distinct sentiment from "Jews did 9/11."
I think gutter racism is in a somewhat different category than conspiracy theories. And it's more like, if he went on someone who went on David Duke's show. But you're making it sound like Platner won't distance himself from outright holocaust denial and that's simply not accurate.
appreciating 2024's eventual Passive Voice Pulitzer winner
I'm entirely aware of that and entirely agree with you that it's a very serious problem
Don't get me wrong, clearly Platner's information environment is not great. He shouldn't be paying attention to anyone this adjacent to holocaust denial. But that's a potentially fixable problem at least. Guilt by headline and association is just feeding cynicism.
Yeah, this is the one I saw. Cornacchia went on the show of someone who is a holocaust denier, not Platner. But Cornacchia didn't claim Jews did 9/11, he "claimed Israel would benefit if another 9/11-style attack" happened - which I don't think is outside the bounds of arguability.
That agenda looks a bit like Zohran's if you squint -
In the replies someone points out this the natural endpoint of having leaders that constantly, relentlessly blame the Other, particularly with no pushback or alternative story. But there have been hopeful signs that's starting to change: both Talarico and Spanberger's recent speeches took this on.
I've been grinding on this datapoint since I saw it the other day and... I sure hope you are right. Both Talarico's victory speech the other night and Spanberger's SOTU response pushed back on this. We've needed people with big platforms to tell a better story for so long. Maybe it's starting.
Also, this one is Sunday!
oh my god I know it's easy to misunderstand people on the internet but come on. Of course I'm not asking that. I'm asking when the podcaster in question said that.
BTW I'm not trying to be argumentative, I really want to know. And again this makes me so angry the ADL lost their damn minds. Reliable, honest tracking of antisemitism was a necessary service.
Oh but at least there's this. The war we didn't declare - for the purpose of swapping one set of leadership that hates us and Israel with a different set of leaders that will, entirely justifiably, hate us even more - is costing us
$2 billion. Per day.
If youβre not angry enough about Trump running the economy like one of his businesses, actually watch this video
1. Yes, in some states you do need Republican votes to win
2. The way to get those votes is not to go around telling everyone how much you agree with them
When did he say this?
No seriously. I want plans for trials. Blueprints, staffing plans, budgets.
I need to write a thread I guess, I looked into the Valhalla guy who he did the long interview with and it justβ¦ wasnβt antisemitic.
I only know of two. One he deleted, the other one I looked into: it was an interview with a podcaster whoβd talked to another podcaster whoβd talked about the Israel-Charlie Kirk conspiracy theory. Itβs guilt by headlines and association.
The most recent Platner supposedly antisemitic thing was not actually a thing
