Your local librarian here to say that it’s great if you read lots of books this year, alright if you read barely anything, that audiobooks, romance and graphic novels are all valid formats and genres, and that some authors suck but we’re still not stopping you from reading them.
I joke that the Jotunn take winter vacation in my town, but I look outside at the snow and wonder if I'm not actually joking.

So I am going to say something about romance as a genre.
A lot of people think that romance is ignorable because <insert thing they think about romance> and romance authors don't count because <insert thing they think about romance>.
This thread is not about whether you have to like romance.

Basically, I am too damn old to care about the scribblings of white men who needed therapy instead of a typewriter. Or white ladies who'd dump a Black or brown woman on the side of the road if it meant her own work got attention.
And I say this as someone whose degree made her spend lots of time with "the classics".
Substack seems determined to subject me to people who mourn the decreasing popularity of "the classics" and literary fiction in general.
