Former head of ICE policy here. Not to defend it *at all* but hoaxes like this are how police work every day. ICE settled a Los Angeles-area lawsuit to limit its use of false "missing cat" and "missing kid" stories, and impersonating real police. I am baffled this is being treated as a new problem.

The removal order is signed by an “immigration judge” DOJ lawyer. The warrant is signed by a supervisory-level deportation officer or similar.

@kenwhite.bsky.social the ice administrative warrant is actually signed by ice, not by an immigration judge. The new position is that an ice administrative warrant is sufficient when predicated upon a removal order issued by an immigration judge.
