The show constantly makes the audience grapple with their own shallow definitions of beauty by wallowing in the most shallow and perverse version of it. And still you sit there and say "I would take that drug in a heartbeat."
The show makes you confront uncomfortable stuff in yourself.
At some point she was pitched "and then your character takes this super drug that makes you young and hot again and you'll be replaced with a gorgeous actress in her 30s."
Functionally based on the premise of the show this has to happen, but it feels grotesquely shallow... which is the whole point.
There's this weird element in The Beauty I've never seen any other show make me grapple with. You have Isabella Rossallini, one of the most gorgeous women on the planet, but because she's 73 she's no longer considered conventionally attractive.
