Well, anything outside the window is. Maybe that threw you off? I think the whole set is practical.

How Blake's 7, or specifically Paul Darrow, disrupts film editing theory.
π Beautiful π
This chibi UFP flag is no doubt my cutest Star Trek emblem.
Bah!
I had the same thought, but it definitely wasn't as cool as the Adama! But then, what isβ¦
Forgot I made this. A more serious attempt at a minimalist UFP emblem. Could definitely see this being used as an icon.
The flag for Star Trek's United Federation of Planets, but there is only a single star inside the wreath and the text reads "UNITED FEDERATION of PLANET"
An alternative flag for the United Nations.
Hopefully! But if Adam Baldwin is involved, as rumoured, then maybe their hearts are not fully in the right place.
Much as I loved the show, I am content to leave it in the past.
I was as big a fan as any back in the day, and I maintain that it's still a good show and movie.
With the benefit of hindsight, a few things have aged poorly, like the writing for some of the female characters and shocking lack of Asian representation given the show's lore.
I have another related opinion: Sometimes I see fans complain about the monoculture problem, but I feel like it's an asset. To some degree at least. These aliens exist as storytelling tools to highlight different aspects of us, real humans. If they become complex, that gets diluted.
Agreed!
More info about the real-world inspirations behind this fireplace.π
I missed those actually! I really should put that man on my alerts. π
Well, Ilia had one too. But I like the thinking!
π Beautiful π
Yes please thank you!
My only criticism is that the green tiled benches look very uncomfortable! And maybe overdo the deltas a bit. π
The inspiration is heavily Frank Lloyd Wright, who himself was heavily inspired by Japanese design.
That B5 ending always bothered me for a reason that will probably make you roll your eyes! I find it to be somewhat superficial rather than profound because the only reason alien cultures lack the same religious diversity we have is because they are fictional.
Ahh. Enterprise is one of the series I am least versed in. π
Heh, deal!
Oh, where was mass mentioned?
I mentioned Wright in my alt text! I'm a fan of his work, though I haven't had the fortune to visit any myself.
See post 1 for a fuller description. The relief itself features a Starfleet delta prominently, with a circular element that also reminds me of the TMP delta. There are more abstract rectangular patterns, but the other interesting area shows triangles representing a mountain range with a parallelogram wing element extending from it.
Here's a nice high-res promo pic featuring the fireplace, but it doesn't show the whole design. That landscape and wing element are what reminded me of the TMP graphic. /3
A graphic created by Rick Sternbach (IIRC) for TMP. Original art at the bottom; how it appeared in the Peel-Off Graphics Book above.
My own recreations of Kirk's emblem.
The fireplace design reminded me of this graphic created for The Motion Picture for Kirk's quarters, though I don't think it was ever seen in the films.
In hindsight, any similarities are probably coincidental and I expect the inspiration came from elsewhere. But who knows! /2
Wide-angle shot of Nala Ake's chancellor office aboard the Athena, showing off some frankly uncomfortable-looking green tiled seating around a large open fireplace with a large stone stone relief design above, including a prominent Starfleet delta. All very Frank Lloyd Wright.
All the Athena sets in SFA are gorgeous, but I'm lowkey obsessed with Ake's office. Especially that huge stone fireplace. /1

(I am quite interested in the broader question of whether religion is necessary to maintain a healthy population. But I suppose that's more of a philosophical discussion.)
