What about "The Second World Wars" by Victor Davis Hanson - Analyzes theaters comparatively rather than chronologically.
or "The Storm of War" by Andrew Roberts - Accessible yet scholarly coverage of all theaters. Balances military strategy with human experience in engaging prose.
