Friendly reminder: if you are waiting on something from a US-based scientist/reviewer/editor, please realize that we're barely making it through each day putting out non-stop fires and trying not to collapse into tears. We're trying our best, but things will take longer right now. Give grace.

I'm hearing about NSF funding opportunities being archived. Which funding opportunities have you seen taken down and how is that impacting you?

We signed international data sharing agreements. Numerical weather prediction requires global data. We won't know what's coming unless upstream neighbors share their weather measurement data community.wmo.int/en/activity-...

NSF funding whiplash leaves some scientists shaken
The four day funding freeze left NSF-funded postdocs without paychecks
A lot has transpired at the NSF since last Tuesday.
Here's a rundown of what's happened (so far) and how the whiplash is impacting scientists: cen.acs.org/policy/resea...

The constantly changing landscape of federal funding is causing so many problems. This article very clearly highlights the problem and the stress for @chemj.bsky.social and other NSF postdocs

This week has been a doozy, so I'll jump in and thank my advisor @chemdelphine.bsky.social and my colleagues for hearing me out and helping me up. Accountability all the way!

Cartoon of a phone screenshot with a bank account on the top of a split screen, and the bottom of a rental pay portal. Current funds for the Checking account ($412.62) and Savings account titled Emergency ($753.11) are shown in the top, banking portal. The account balance ($983.27) and renter's insurance ($111.34) are shown as due for the rental portal titled Rent -R- Us. The Checking and Savings funds combined equal just over the funding required to pay for the account balance and renter's insurance due to the landlords.
In case anyone's wondering what it's like to be an #NSF postdoc today.
Like most people, we need to pay for rent, insurance, and groceries. Many of us also have student loans, phone bills, and car payments.
At this point, we don't know when we will get our paychecks.

Doodle of a female scientist, wearing a big hat, sunglasses, a long-sleeve shirt, water bottle, big cargo pants with papers in a pocket, sock over pants (no bugs!) and hiking boots. Image credit to Mj Riches.
This week, my science pen-pal opened my letter answering her questions- how much do I get paid, how did I get funded (#NSF), what it looks like to be a scientist.
I didn't think that three weeks after writing my response, those answers may no longer be valid.
