My son's homemade birthday gift for me yesterday is pretty great- a scientists vs viruses card game! ππ₯³π²
Some nice artwork so far too!
Now to suggest some #IFN as a special weapon π

I thought the same thing occasionally. Rev1 writes the longest summary & by Rev3 it can be quite short. If you see a wrong summary then yes showed they didnt get something but I would prefer their time spent on more suggestions spelled out if had to choose if being given 3.9 vs writing out aims
I am surprised more dont read >> comments in detail before the meeting knowing which would likely be discussed before grants coming up. I thought this would be a key to give everyone fair chance if notice only 1 bottom score to rescue or if some not ok comments or much too little written...
Congrats! ππ»ππ₯
Just noticed the average grant total $ has (not surprisingly) gone up by a significant amount too over the last few yrs with this year close to $1M so that plus many more grants, just doesn't add up for a decent success rate if no increase in funding and still needing a large across the board cut! π’
And we only get to that percent with large cut of over 20%. I wish that promise of multi year increase in tri-council funding had actually happened even at 50% of what was noted vs backending it knowing next leader wouldn't follow through in later years...
And now we say this is a great time to recruit all these new scientists to Canada....
Wow that is a scary trend!
Yikes is right. What have been % funded the last 2 or 3 times as I thought it was higher? If only some of the Impact+ money went to CIHR...
Nice! Hope u guys have fun
Mexico so much quicker to get here π
-30C back home so we picked a good time to get away for a much needed break ππβ±οΈπ΄
Go Seahawks!!! π₯³π
Had to get our classic jerseys out + we have our signed pennant from a fan event back during my PhD at UW pre-2010π
#longtimefan #GoHawks #12s
Yes true- too many deserving grants - if only some of that $1+billion announced was invested in base tri-council funding so desperately needed
And the 'secret' vote means no way to predict once get beyond the like top 4 grants. No one wants to give less than 4.0 if trying to be friendly canadian view I guess?
I know some people want top vs bottom removed. Score creep seems to depend on panel when I would be curious to see average score per panel when some u need 4.6+, others u need 4.3 to be funded
Last chance to apply!
#Immunology postdoc in my lab.
FYI We have strict rules for postdoc time of 6 years post PhD so I can only recruit if within 3 years of finishing your PhD
Check out this job at University of Manitoba: www.linkedin.com/jobs/view/43...
More info here & happy to chat more ASAP when only ~1 week to deadline about working in my lab as a post doc. Start date needing to be by early 2027. We are only recruiting a post doc for this award, not student

Wow, I didnt know the timeline would be this tight, #immunology post docs interested in 2yr impact+ award if graduated with PhD in last 2 yrs & currently outside π¨π¦, we need to nominate by Jan 15th! So if interested in #IFNs, #IBD, #immunoregulation, get in touch ASAP as this will be competitive! π€ππ»π
With a little help from AI, a #SanterLab #YearInReview to feature some highlights of 2025.
Cheers to hopefully continued success & fun in and outside the lab for 2026π₯ππ₯³
Keep a lookout for Canada Impact+ Research Chair & training award postings so we can recruit top #Immunology talent in 2026
What a fun #immunology holiday party today! Good food, company & some games + gift stealing to round it all off. Despite a 2 day snow stormβοΈ, it was great so many people still made the trek to campus to celebrate the end of the semester π₯ππ₯³ππ
Thanks to all who helped organizeππ»
Fun times as a lab at Activate Winnipeg! Great team building in lots of cooperative games π Just missing Yuliia who sadly couldn't make it
Ugh so shortsighted... how many will leave after when tricouncil itself so underfunded π€¦ββοΈπ€¦ββοΈπ€¦ββοΈ
Our virtual #immunology Open House is already next week Nov 24!
We welcome all to join ππ at any stage of training to hear about our dept & from faculty recruiting, incl me!π
Current trainees will also be there to answer Qs about UM, Winnipeg etc!

The #SanterLab just turned 5 years old! ππ₯³
This past yr had grants x3π°, a MSc gradπ, new lab membersπ₯Ό, studentships to grad studentsπ, many fun conferencesβοΈ, plenty of dataπ , mentorship & outreach & more!
Cheers to more fun & discoveries & super thankful to all who have been part of the team! π₯ππ»
Ugh I cant believe even a fraction of that huge amount couldn't be reserved for tricouncil to support those already here and our trainees with stable increase each year vs 2% cut. I remember a nice table of hundreds of millions planned to increase tricouncil years back from Trudeau π€¦ββοΈ
What a great #Cytokines2025 meeting! Caught up with many #IFN scientists, made multiple new connections, had fun giving a talk & great to see those from UW Immunology all these years later. Always my fav conference ππ₯³ Thanks to all the organizers!ππ» @cytokinesociety.bsky.social @ramlabuw.bsky.social
#Cytokines2025 has begun- looking forward to a few days of networking, especially with #IFN friends from outside π¨π¦ when it has been too long π
Despite the challenge of travel to the US at the moment, still 20 countries represented this year π
#Cytokines25 @cytokinesociety.bsky.social
Busy last few weeks with Italy pediatric IBD conference, chairing local equity symposium & now off to Seattle for #Cytokines2025! I haven't been able to attend the last 2yrs so excited to chat with fellow #IFN enthusiasts & give a talk π₯³ + always nice to visit where I did my PhD when not back often
Happy Halloween from the Santer Lab! π¦₯π»ππ¬
