Wow, that is super interesting! Great article with so much curious information. Bohemia got rejected but Finland played as Grand Duchy of Finland, Russian Empire. Fascinating stuff. I am genuinely curious how these decisions came about. If Bohemia was interested why not field a Habsburg empire team?

Studying comparative inter-regional interpersonal
income distributions (CIRIPID, I know - 7 letter acronym!), I show that inequality converges across regions and in some countries, regions are becoming equally more unequal. Check it out in JoEG: doi.org/10.1093/jeg/...

TIL that the first ⚽️ game between two non-british European nations was Austria vs Hungary in 1902 (thus when A-H empire still existed). While there seems to have never been a Habsburg empire national ⚽️ team (or was there?), a club competition with teams from Vienna, Budapest & Prague started in 1897

In the census of Austria-Hungary of 1869 there was a separate professional category for β€žnon-productive professionsβ€œ. Any guesses who that might have included? (Answer below)

First post just a repeat of favorite football/inequality stat: Josef Bican, most prolific goal scorer of all time until dethroned by CR7, would have needed to play 95 years to earn 1 week of Christiano Ronaldo's wages. Having started his career in 1931, he would still have 3 years of playing ahead.
