The Government has set out a bold vision in its new white paper. But there’s still a lot we don’t know, and key questions remain.

So, what needs to be checked off their to-do list to make that vision a reality? 📝
We’ve got a few ideas.

We’re disappointed that the Government has failed to consider the #2in30 children who have Developmental Language Disorder (DLD) in the Schools White Paper.

They must commit to putting children with lifelong speech and language challenges at the heart of their reforms.

Developmental Language Disorder (DLD) awareness Watch our new video and share it to help us raise awareness of this lifelong condition. #2in30

We were disappointed to read the new Neurodivergence Taskforce report and see that, once again, Developmental Language Disorder (DLD) is missing! DLD affects 2 in 30 children, and the government must ensure these children get the support they need.

The Schools White Paper could change the lives of hundreds of thousands of children who face lifelong speech and language challenges. But only if the Government backs 700,000 children with Developmental Language Disorder (DLD), specialists & evidence.

Specialist resourced speech and language provisions could make it possible for children struggling to talk and understand words to be included and learn in mainstream schools.🌟

Behaviour expert plays down hubs' restorative practice trend 'The behaviour hubs actively encouraged schools to adopt greater levels of consistency'

Is Tom Bennett losing this argument?

Schools are increasingly realising his restrictive behaviour policies penalise young people with speech and language challenges unfairly and needlessly.

If we’re serious about inclusion, it’s time to move from sanctions to proper support. 👉 bit.ly/3MivMcV

ELSEC is finding the hidden need — now let’s back what works to help children thrive

ELSEC’s interim results show early, flexible support works for children with speech and language challenges, especially when settings can act fast with evidence-based tools. But identifying need at scale must be matched by prevention and specialist support.

Why government must invest in speech and language therapy We can't close the gap if we allow communication skills to go unmet at this alarming scale

"We must stop treating speech and language support as optional."

An incredibly powerful article from @thurrockjen.bsky.social 👏👏 It's time the Government saw speech and language support "not as an expense but as an upfront investment"!
