Right now, we are standing by as history is erased. Textbooks rewritten. Truths discarded. Monuments recast.

Until we face the fact that violence has shaped our past and continues to shape our present, we will keep repeating the cycle. Each time at greater cost.

🇺🇸 The great American mythology refuses to confront our history of violence, especially the political violence that built this nation.

We comfort ourselves with “the better angels of our nature,” but the truth is those angels have too often been violent ones.

They fear pluralism more than they fear authoritarianism. Their allegiance isn’t to democracy—it’s to domination.

We have to confront the reality that there are people in this country who would rather see the US collapse into chaos and ruin than accept a future where power is shared—equally—among Black, Brown, Indigenous, immigrant, queer, Muslim, Jewish, and other historically marginalized communities.

Our government is plagued by incompetence and a lack of serious leadership. We are facing a crisis fueled by mediocrity.

In graduate school, I studied nuclear security and nonproliferation, and people thought I should have chosen a terrorism specialty, but here we are…The government across Europe is thinking about the expansion of nuclear weapons. We should all pause and think about the next generation.

A lot will be coming at us. We cannot and should not respond to all of it. We have to act strategically and methodically. Do yourself a solid and find moments of joy and peace daily.
